About Oslo

The foundation of Oslo dates back to the early 11 th century. In addition to being the seat of the government, Oslo is the business and cultural capital of the nation. Oslo has many cultural attractions and sights and is surrounded by magnificent scenery from the fjord to the forested hills. Museums and collections of international fame depict the history of the city, such as the Viking ship museum, the Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Nobel Peace Centre. The centre of Oslo is small and shopping and entertainment areas are within walking distance.

Climate
Oslo's climate is actually better than its northern latitude might suggest. This is due to the Gulf Stream bringing warmth from the Gulf of Mexico up the coast of Norway. Average daytime temperatures in August are about 19°C (66°F) and lowest average temperatures at night time are around 11°C (52°F).
